What Can It Do For Your Dog?
While oil of oregano’s benefits has been touted for years a study conducted by the University of the West of England and a laboratory in India proved its efficacy. UWE’s project leader Professor Vyv Salisbury stated,
“We have done a few preliminary tests and have found that the essential oil from the oregano kills MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) at a dilution 1 to 1,000.“
This finding solidified what many already knew – the power of oil of oregano. It’s been commonly used to aid with conditions like candida, all types of viral infections and common bugs like Salmonella and E. coli that may affect dogs.
AND How Can You Use It For Your Dog?
- Depending on the size of your dog, adding a drop or two of oil of oregano in your dog’s food may provide defense against bacterial, viral and fungal infections, candida, water-borne illnesses and as a de-wormer.
- Oil of oregano has also been used for giardia.
- You can also add a drop of oil of oregano to your dog’s toothpaste for good oral health. Bacteria that can cause gum disease may also lead to cardiovascular disease as your dog ages.
Precautions: while generally safe, your oil of oregano should always be diluted as described above. Not recommended for dogs vulnerable to seizures. Consult your holistic vet if you have any concerns about giving your dog oil of oregano.
